Cellphone Tip – July Newsletter

If someone got hold of your smartphone, they could go through your email and potentially gain access to sensitive information. Smartphones are also susceptible to viruses and other types of malicious software which can steal personal information or disrupt your activities.

It’s not difficult or expensive to keep your smartphone safe. Here are some basic safety tips to help you do it:

  • Lock your screen with a passcode when you put it on standby or if you haven’t used it for a while.
  • Don’t keep sensitive information – your bank details, phone banking security answers, credit card pin and so on – on your phone.
  • Be careful about what you download, particularly when it comes to apps. Before you download an app, check out what other users are saying about it – read the user reviews. Also check what information the app wants to access when you install it, and why it wants it.
  • Keep your phone updated. Developers are constantly upgrading mobile operating systems to plug security holes and deploy new safety measures – so download and install updates when they become available.
